Piano Lessons in New York City 🚕

How Can I Encourage My Child to Practice Piano?

Your child’s teacher will date-stamp the pages in their piano books to show what they are currently working on.

At home, follow these simple steps:

  1. Find the most recent date stamps in the books. These pages show what your child should practice.
  2. Practice each piece 5 times. Repetition helps build confidence, accuracy, and familiarity with the music.
  3. Practice for about 5–15 minutes or more, working on 1–2 pieces from the most recently stamped pages.
  4. Let your child play a favorite piece whenever they want! Once children begin to connect with a tune they love, playing it becomes enjoyable and motivating. Playing a favorite piece is one of the best ways to practice piano.
  5. Bring the books to the next lesson so the teacher can check your child’s progress and assign the next practice pages.

For young children, short, focused, and enjoyable practice is best. Encourage your child to play music they love whenever they feel inspired to play!
